Well put Myron. Hard to argue.

I guess my concern is seeing all the attention that goes to athletics - including mine.

I wonder often where we find space for the spirit of the Sabbath - of deep rest, of connection.

And thanks for becoming a fan of NewChurch LIVE. I hope to get up your way in the not too distant future.

I must respectfully disagree. We are not a nation of sports. While sports and athletics are BIG business it does not define the USA. We are a nation of opportunities: education, artist, actors, musicians, trades people, hunters, fisher men and women, animal lovers, farmers, business men and women, writers, readers, .... Each one of us get to decide what are interests are - we have many choices and the choice is ours alone - you get to decide. Thanks - Myron Kurtiak

I agree that the market is not a person and is fallible. (I assume you do not mean to imply that a God-made person is infallible.) There is more to be said about the market being man-made however. Since man created it, man has responsibility for it. If man bows to the market as if it is a person we make it an idol rather than an instrument demanding human responsible management. We ought not to bow to it but it to us (presuming we are responsible stewards of it). I guess the problem for me is that we are not acting as responsible stewards but allowing greed to run the show. The drama of the market is a tool of the greedy used against the fearful--and we have become both!
