Change is Scary. Changing for God is Terrifying.

The Nicean Creed, written in 381 AD, sent Christianity off course with a simple omission.  The Creed jumps from the birth of Jesus to Mary to the end of His life: “He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven…”

We are so good at isolating ourselves from change!  The creed jumps dramatically from the birth of Jesus to His death, leaving out the not-so-insignificant fact of His life.  That is where we isolate ourselves – when we pull ourselves from the rather uncomfortable facts of His LIFE.  Understand Jesus’ Life and you cannot remain isolated from change.

I imagine it almost impossible to be reminded too many times of Jesus’ call to follow Him vs. to passively worship Him.  That ‘following’ is radical, scary, empowering, and leads one on the downward path of surrender (downward at least for the ego).  We are not left “intact.”  We find ourselves broken and remade.
